The soothing and tranquil qualities of blue make it a favourite amongst interior designers and homeowners alike and now Pantone has announced it’s colour of the year for 2020 as Classic Blue.
Described by Pantone as “a timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”
“A timeless and enduring blue hue”
“A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to express and expand our thinking, challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of The Pantone Colour Institute.
At Loomah we often find ourselves leaning towards a blue colour palette when designing our in-house bespoke rug collections time and time again. “I would almost consider blue a neutral”, says Antonina, Designer at Loomah, “the right shade offers so much versatility and unlike many colour trends it is timeless and works equally as well in modern and traditional interiors.”
The versatility of Classic Blue makes it a solid option for an investment piece such as a custom made rug. Blue and natural wood shades are also classic combinations, and the use of Classic Blue in a hand tufted rug offsets beautifully against wooden floors. Antonina recommends combining brighter blues with deeper shades to add vibrancy and give balance to a space.
“The right shade offers so much versatility”
Classic blue also works well in monochromatic schemes. However, the use of texture is essential to the success of monochromatic schemes. “Layering varying textures can add interest and depth to a room and create a subtle yet sophisticated effect,” adds Antonina.
Alternatively, for a more subtle way of incorporating Classic Blue into your custom made rug, add it as contrasting pop of colour into an otherwise neutral design. Loomah’s Timeless features a geometric fretwork pattern framed by an opulent traditional border. The overall look remains classical, but the subtle colour palette of soft greys with the splash of blue gives a contemporary edge, without overpowering the whole space.
