PROJECT FOCUS: OSTOZHENKA PENTHOUSE

Loomah are at the forefront of the design and supply of luxury bespoke carpets and rugs.   With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Loomah have established an eclectic portfolio of both modern and traditional carpet and rug designs.  “We have such a diverse range of products and designs available” says Andrew Cotgrove, managing director and co-founder of Loomah, “but with endless possibilities in colour, material and texture available, we understand the process of commissioning a bespoke carpet or rug can be overwhelming.”

Loomah regularly launch in-house collections designed to illustrate our design capabilities and showcase the myriad finishes and techniques that can be used when creating a hand tufted carpet or rug.  All of which are all available for customisation.

“Loomah have such a diverse range of products and designs available”

August was initially designed as part of Loomah’s Kaleidoscope Collection. Launched at Decorex in 2013, this original hand tufted rug featured an abstract design in a refreshing palette of delicious sorbet shades.

When designing abstract patterns, achieving the desired finish is a complex process that involves the use of a lot of colours.  “When we were developing the design for August we couldn’t find the right shades in our standard tuft box,” comments Andrew. As part of our design package, Loomah offer a bespoke colour service where we can dye to match a colour of your choice.  “There is no limit to what we can match” adds Andrew, “so for August we sent a packet of M&S sherbets to our factory to colour match. The factory usually return the original colour reference to us along with colour tufts for approval, but in this instance the sherbets never made it back to us.”

OSTOZHENKA PENTHOUSE_Interior Design By Yekaterina Fedochenko

Renowned Russian interior designer, Ekaterina Fedorchenko approached Loomah to commission two custom made rugs for a penthouse apartment in Moscow’s most exclusive address, Ostozhenka.  Located in the historic centre of Moscow, Ostozhenka is renowned for its architecture with Art Nouveau buildings lining the streets of this prestigious neighbourhood.

The overall inspiration for the interior design for this penthouse apartment was colourful, opulence with a whimsical touch of fairy tale.  “I tried to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, while respecting the need for privacy, Ekaterina explained to the Italian publication, Marie Claire Maison, “so the apartment is divided in two macrozones: one part reserved for intimacy and the other dedicated to parties and dinners with friends.”

The whimsical theme continues in the living room, where Ekaterina incorporates playful touches such as the pair of blue goat fur armchairs by Francis Sultana and a swing descending from the ceiling.

For the hand tufted rugs, Ekaterina Fedorchenko selected August from our design portfolio.  Our in-house designer worked alongside Ekaterina to customise the design to work within her vision for the Living Room. Ekaterina utilised the same design for both rugs providing continuity within the space but used different colour palettes which added interest and differentiated the different zones. “The use of the same design for both rugs not only adds impact, but seamlessly ties the two areas of the space together,” says Natalie, designer at Loomah.

The living space is light and airy, flooded with natural light from the full-height French doors and framed by light blue silk curtains. Sky blue dominates the colour scheme evoking a feeling of calm. This is reflected in the first of the handmade rugs where we utilised a cool palette of soft pastel shades to complement the overall aesthetic of the space.

The second rug has a more dramatic finish with darker, steely shades that complement the grey sofa and metallic finishes that have been incorporated into the scheme.

Both bespoke rugs commissioned have been hand tufted from our finest silk in a smooth cut pile finish resulting in a beautiful lustre that invites you to walk barefoot.  Texture is key to Ekaterina’s interior design, with naturally elegant materials such as blown glass, stone and ceramics taking precedence.  The living room is dominated by changes in material with sumptuous fabrics such as the velvet sofa and handmade silk rugs juxtaposed against reflective glass and mirrored surfaces that add to the overall light and playful ambience of the space.

The playful interiors created by Ekaterina Fedorchenko in this enchanting apartment perfectly reflect the owner’s dynamic social life and passion for art and design.
