Chiltern Place, a Ronson Capital Partners development set in the heart of Marylebone Village in London, is a 15-storey residential building comprising of 55 one to four bedroom apartments and a three bedroom townhouse. The luxurious living spaces combine generous layouts and panoramic views with innovative design and superior finishes.
Designed by PLP Architecture, the elegant apartments and stylish townhouse replace an outdated 1960s former office building, offering significant visual and operational improvements whilst honouring the heritage of the building in its new architectural form.
The interiors of this unique development were designed by Tomasz Starzewski, renowned fashion designer and interior designer whose portfolio includes over 20 distinctive residential and commercial projects.
“Loomah and Tomasz have worked together for longer than we would both care to admit,” says Andrew Cotgrove, Founder and Managing Director of Loomah Bespoke Carpets & Rugs. “We are always excited to work with Tomasz, his passion and creativity are second to none and he approaches every project from a new and different perspective.”
Refusing to take shortcuts, Tomasz is involved from inception, working through every step with the artisans to ensure the creation of unique objects that truly complement an environment, always pushing the creative boundaries through the use of texture, surface and colour.
“I design by beginning with the floor and then look up to the walls and ceilings, before setting a narrative of colour that runs through the project,” explains Tomasz Starzewski. “I believe in understanding the client and putting them first in order to bring out their point of view and not overshadow their personality. Each project has a different brief and is tailored to suit individual requirements and the finished product is entirely personal.”
The scheme was about mixing modern with retro
Tomasz approached Loomah to design a bespoke handmade rug for the show flat. “The scheme was about mixing modern with retro,“ adds Tomasz. Furniture from Tomasz’s own collection is combined with vintage pieces.
Structured yet abstract, the bespoke rug design showcases a mosaic border and body pattern composed using hundreds of multi-coloured squares. The pointillistic design is presented in tones of sage, stone and muted blues. This pared back colour palette perfectly complements the soft furnishings, allowing the vibrant artworks (including Rene Roche’s 1974 work “Composition”) to take centre stage.
Hand tufted from 100% Pure New Zealand Wool, Tomasz specified a shaggy finish for the custom made rug, a subtle nod to the original 1960s heritage of the building. This was achieved by increasing the pile height and weight to create a looser cut pile finish that feels wonderfully sumptuous underfoot whilst maintaining all the benefits of a wool carpet. The finish is understated whilst perfectly uniting the mix of new and vintage pieces to create a cohesive space.
